ALL-AGESNot Enough! Queer Music and Arts Festival is a three day multidisciplinary festival aimed at encouraging collaboration, innovation, and community-building for queers. At its essence, Not Enough! is a challenge to the queer communities to meet new people, engage in new creative projects, travel out to faraway places, and to re-define for themselves what contemporary creative queer cultures are all about.
The goals behind this festival stem from years of hearing queers in Portland ask for a stronger presence in the music/art/film/performance scenes that did not involve assimilating to heteronormative, capitalist, or hierarchical standards in their respective fields. As a grassroots and collaborative organization, Not Enough! has sought to construct a festival that is created by, supported by, and comprised entirely of the people who are going to come and enjoy the festival. Its core guidelines around collaboration, inclusion, support, innovation, and the valuing of the human presence at the festival, comprise the backbone to what is an amorphous beast, or an ever-changing festival that will grow to adapt itself to the needs and climate of its surrounding environment.
This year’s Not Enough! festival will be taking place at Cathedral Park Place, 6635 N Baltimore St., Portland, OR 97203 inside Warehouse “N” (for Not Enough!) from September 16 through the 18, 2011. Friday, September 16th marks the first day of the festival with a collaboration between Not Enough! and The Big GAY Warehouse of San Francisco, California. This first night will feature film, performances, bands, and art installations curated by Alix P. Shedd Lamet, of the Big GAY Warehouse. The following two days of the festival will be comprised of over 40 bands, performances, films, art installations, visual art pieces, and more! The Big GAY Warehouse at 250 Industrial St. was an experiment, a trial in which we saw and experienced the magic that happens when queer people create space for queer people. On July 9th, 2011 our lease terminated and this first bGw was no more. Now we move onto bigger, better, GAYER things.
But first, The Big GAY Warehouse Memorial Service, in which we tell the tales and celebrate the life of the bGw, through a re-creation of a wildly extravagant night at 250 Industrial.
